10, 2006 July 20, 2006 The last couple of months, Kid's been busy working, settling into Williamsburg, rehearsing the new Pink Monkey Birds, and working on new material because, here's the first item of exciting news, hold on to your hats: Kid Congo and the Pink Monkey Birds will now embark upon their first ever US tour! They'll be hitting towns along the Eastern seaboard in September, midwest in October, and, finally, the west coast in November. Booking legend Todd Cote of Leafy Green did an amazing job. Look at their itinerary if ya don't want to take our word for it. So that covers most of ya - as for the rest - those living below the Mason Dixon, in the sunbelt, and holed up in the mountains and planes somewhere in the middle, you are still in Kid's heart and he plans on coming to visit to soon. The second item of exciting news... will be disclosed soon. For now, go here for the dates.
April 14, 2006 Kid Congo and the Pink Monkey Birds are planning on touring the U.S. for the first time this summer. It didn't take long for Kid to select Leafy Green Booking as his official agent. Kid's worked with Leafy Green's Todd Cote on and off for years - so he's stoked be in exteremely trustworthy and capable hands. Not only that, but Kid feels very much at home on Leafy Green's eclectic, yet condensed high-quality roster which includes everything from Devendra Banhart, Akron/Family, Vashti Bunyan, Mi and L'au, and Angels of Light to High on Fire and The Fucking Champs to Mudhoney and Monkeywrench to The Woggles and the Fleshtones to Laibach, Bob Log III, Dirty Projecors, and Pearls and Brass. Look out because Leafy Green is sending Kid to a town near you. April 5, 2006
Kid and the gang somehow made it back alive from South by Southwest. Kid Congo and the Pink Monkey Birds played two shows. One was a daytime New York Night Train party with all kinds of amazing bands including GoGoGo Airheart, Hopewell, and The Notekillers. Knoxville Girl Jerry Teel, Mr.Quintron, Ms. Pussycat, and lots of other old friends were on hand. Due to a last minute change, the rhythm section couldn't make it and Kid recruited David Lloyd from Cause for Applause (also the Philosophy and Underwear cover model) and local Austin drum superstar Lyman Hardy - whose band Pong also played the party. The two did an amazing job. Kid's set was followed immediately by a short sweet one by Jerry Teel and Pink Monkey Birds guitarist Jack Martin. Next the band loaded up the truck and hit the Velvet Spade. A bunch of fine bands - Tsk Tsk, Sistas in the Pit, The Nervous Exits, Cause for Applause, and Viva l'American Death Ray Music, were also on the bill. Kid and gang played to a packed room and really brought 'em down. Kudos to Lyman and David for sounding like they'd been there along - or better. New York Night Train has posted some pictures of both parties here. |
